Not sure what ive done but the images are larger than normal lol must have pushed some button , trust me , anyway what the heck , this is in artists oils in Corel Painter , i was really striving for the thick oils effect of Van Gogh , and of course the feeling of movement and light , im slowly getting the results im after ,not all the time but now and again lol its hard to get into someone elses mind set when painting , with this i kept thinking of the thick ridges left by the brushes on the canvasas of the old masters ………. well these last 2 weeks have been great (not with the cold and snuffles) ive love both choices Karen has made and was in my element u can see more of my work for that period here and here my pbase site hope u go look and leave a comment i would love to hear from u …………..

well im a bit late posting as ive been unwell flu or something lol bugga anyway heres my wk2 piece i did two versions of this loved doing it ……Its done in the style of Mary Cassatt i just love her work so Karen couldnt have picked a better artist other than Degas lol he was also a choice ………..this one was perfect to emulate the style of Cassatt as the light just glowed , we were of course using chalks and pastels in Corel Painter and adding a paper texture of our choice to enhance the piece , hope u like it ……….

Wk 1 at Open Studio we had to create a landscape and other works of choice using chalks and textured paper in Corel Painter , its good to have to focus on one medium so u get the feel of the chalks and try out the different papers that are in the program, we have a board where we post our work and the teacher comments , gives advice etc if needed, then at the end of the week there is a live critique session where work is submitted and talked about by members of the group……..ok will be back with wk2 soon….

This is a self study course over 4 weeks at DAA which im currently enrolled in , i enrolled in it because like most people who buy graphics programs i just jumped in and started painting and playing and learning on the fly by doing any tutorial i could find for Corel Painter, i was reading about how to make your own brushes etc and finally realized that i knew very little about the workings of the brushes other than what i picked up along the way ……..so now back to basics lol its a great course and im in my second week and have learned heaps ………so thats what im up to at the moment lol

- My Painter Brushes with border.
Well i said id post a painting with a border as that was what the last week of class was about, texture and borders, so here it is i had fun with this one splashing digital paint around lol
Now im signed up for more classes this time with Karen for Open Studio, she started this on her forum and has now transfered it to the Digital Art Acadamy to make things easier for her , everything in one place ,im also in her Painter Brushes course this is a self study course do it at your own speed but Karen is there to answer questions and such so u dont really miss out on anything.
Week one of Open Studio this time is all about using the chalk brushes and its great because u also get videos to show u how to approach a painting and seeing im a monkey see monkey do kinda gal
i just love the videos ……….I used the chalk brushes for the first time when i got the Jeremy Sutton video its expensive but he is very good at showing u and explaining everything, so its worth it ……….

Ok u dont have to buy expensive programs just try out some free ones like Gimp or Artrage both of these are free programs and Artrage has a version 2 with layers for $25.00, so check these out, you will need a Wacom tablet if u are serious cause trying to paint with the mouse is like painting with a brick lol although a lot of people do and do it well ………….the Bamboo is a good one to start with if u are unsure, you can also get a bargain on ebay or if u have a student in the family u get good discounts at some outlets………so whats stopping u lol ive done all the hunting and gathering lol so no excuse now, have a go u will love it…
if u draw in real life u could say scan in something and start painting or just think of it as colouring in till u get the feel of things , we all started out just playing and u learn as u go by joining forums or doing classes on line like the ones i have mentioned here…………

Hi all well u all know how time evades us especially when we are having fun lol ive just completed my 3rd week of classes with Marilyn Sholin at DAA and it was all about colour just my thing, cause im a colour kinda gal lol
As soon as i saw this old beauty i thought wow she must hold lots of secrets , wondered how many young lovers shes had in her back seat lol anyway i had to have a go at painting her ,so being that it was all about colour that suited me fine and i think she scrubbed up so well ………….
This week its all about texture and borders for your work , its nice to present them this way for the internet but of course if u are wanting to print them out well best be careful with those texture brushes lol and of course u would use a real life frame and matting …………it does give u a bit of an idea how they will look when framed for real, so thats the best part………..
i will add a textured one with a border soon to finish off the course ……….
